March 31st, 2006

Whee… I finally got a BSNL broadband Internet connection at home this afternoon.

Life without television

I really believe we should all hear what Irina has to say.

Google Finance

March 21st, 2006

When it comes to adding a climax to the UI, one has to really hand it to Google. The very same information that is in Yahoo! finance has been presented *so* beautifully.

Especially the charts. We have the 1d, 5d, 1m, …, max links, but we also have the resizable bar on the top – that is simply awesome. Someone pinch me and tell me I’m using a browser. Even the grid resizes itself. All without the harshness of a browser. Man… how do they do it? The chart can also be panned, and there’s a small marker that moves along the line to tell your date, price, volume etc. What’s more the news on the right also changes according to the timeline. Did I say changes? It just sails away.

Without further ado,

Update: OK OK… No need to get all wild. I didn’t realize they are using Flash.

Size Does Matter

March 21st, 2006

Nested table layout, CSS layout, three columns, rounded corners – we’ve seen them all. But personally, I prefer a no-frills large-text UI. You will know what I mean when you look at Gnome, Russell Beattie Notebook and Big. Readability over frills any day.

Sorry about the cliched title.

Brokeback Mountain

Conscious Procrastination

March 6th, 2006

Here lies John, who passed away
While answering his email one day.
No friend, no child, no loving mate
Could keep poor John from working late.
With each new mail, he worked like hell
To click “reply” instead of “del.”
A prompt response he’d always give
But somehow he forgot to live.
