Bangalore Roads Getting Painted
Bangalore roads are finally getting painted.
Drivers in Bangalore continually complain about how the traffic is so unruly. Everyone, including the government, complains that people don’t follow lane discipline. The sad reality is that there were no lanes painted on the roads, and nothing was ever done to educate the general public about the meaning of the sign boards that read: “Please follow lane discipline.”
Over the last few weeks, I notice that a number of roads are being painted. They’re doing a very neat job.
It is surprising how the very presence of these marks on the road forces you to align yourself to some unspoken rule. I hope this causes some relief to the people who suffer in the traffic.
On the down side, this causes people to drive faster. Because of the poor lighting at night, people tend to use their head lights at full beam when they go faster.
Also since the roads now have a highway-ish feel, drivers tend to care less about pedestrians trying to cross the road while standing on the median.
